The Cairo Criminal Court will issue on 5 March its verdict on a policeman accused of shooting a citizen dead in the area of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar last week, state-owned media reported Wednesday.

According to Al-Ahram, the suspect was referred to urgent trial, facing first degree murder charges based on an autopsy report by the Forensic Medicine Authority.

The trial comes rather fast in Egyptian courts given the importance of the incident and the outrage of the victim’s family expressed in a wide protest surrounding Cairo Security Directorate.

Tuktuk driver Mohamed Ismail was shot and killed following an argument with the accused policeman.

The South Cairo Incidents Prosecution issued on a four-day detention order Sunday for another police officer, who is accused of killing a truck driver in the district of Bab Al-Khalq in Cairo on Thursday.
