Three civilians were injured Monday evening after a bomb exploded in Aswan, state media reported.

The improvised explosive device (IED) was located close to a security camp in Aswan, causing the injuries, one of whom was a four-year-old child. The injured persons were transported to Aswan University Hospital.

The Governor of Aswan later visited the injured in hospital.

Another bomb exploded near a security checkpoint on Cairo’s 15th of May Bridge on Sunday, resulting in the death of a police officer and the injury of two civilians.

Militant activities have been on the rise in governorates across Egypt since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. The highest frequency of attacks have taken place in North Sinai, followed by Cairo and other governorates. Explosions and drive-by shootings mainly target army and security officials.
