On Saturday 16 November, the Ladies Health Alliance (LHA) will host the first Women’s Health Forum in Egypt. The forum, which will take place throughout the day at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza, will discuss topics that are considered important aspects of women’s lives such as breast cancer, regular checkups, nutrition, osteoporosis and cosmetics.

According to the website, speakers include Dr Madiha Khattab, former Cairo University Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr Norran Hussein, Women’s Imaging Radiologist at the National Breast Screening Programme; and Dr Ashraf Selim, renowned breast imaging expert and Head of Women’s Imaging Unit, Cairo University.

Ladies Health Association’s CEO Dr Norran Hussein shed some light on the forum. “The forum is part of the Egyptian Society for Women’s Imaging and Healthcare’s (ESWIH) ongoing commitment to raise public awareness about critical women’s health issues, specifically with a focus on early detection of breast cancer,” explained Hussein.

The ESWIH was established in 2005 as a non-profit organisation, aimed at providing a platform for women health specialists. According to the website, “the organisation has held numerous educational workshops on women’s health, mainly addressing breast and foetal imaging. The society is also committed to raising awareness of women’s health issues by hosting various public seminars.”

Hussein also explained that the forum is an extension of the organisation’s activities with one purpose: “to encourage women to go for regular checkups in general when they feel something is not right and to schedule yearly appointments for essential screening that can be life saving or vital such as mammograms and DXA.”

Although similar events have taken place in the past, this is the first time that it will be held with the intent of it becoming an annual forum. The forum will start at 11am at the Nile Ballroom, and the day’s activities are divided among six sessions.
