The armed forces issued a short statement on the official Facebook page of their spokesman denying the “presence of any US navy ships or that of any other country” close to Egyptian coasts, on Friday.

The statement said that anything reported regarding the presence of US navy ships in Egypt “has nothing to do with the truth.”

Earlier on Friday several media outlets reported that a US navy ship anchored close to the coast in case of instability and the escalation of violence, readying to evacuate US citizens from Egypt.
