CAIRO: Security forces cordoned a mosque in Assiut on Tuesday night, preventing Muslim Brotherhood (MB) members from hanging banners on the mosque s walls, Mohamed Habib, the group s deputy leader, told Daily News Egypt. Habib, who seemed to be taking the news lightly, said that the governor of Assiut ordered security forces to prevent them from hanging banners on Abou Al-Joud mosque. This, he said, is the main mosque in the governorate where people conduct the Eid prayers – which took place Wednesday morning. “The governor was of course acting on behalf of the National Democratic Party (NDP) as the security forces were ordered to hang banners belonging to the NDP instead of the MB on the mosque s walls, Habib added.

According to Habib, although the NDP successfully hung their banners, “the MB group led the Muslims in prayer and we were the ones who distributed gifts to the people after the Eid prayer and organized the Eid festival in the area.

“They were only able to prevent us from hanging our banners and that is of course in order to wipe out the MB s name from the praying area and the governorate, Habib said.
