The General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) has signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Chamber of Apparel and Home Textile Industries (ECAHT) to enhance testing and inspection services for textiles, ready-made garments, and technical apparel, aiming to improve product quality and strengthen the global competitiveness of Egyptian exports.
The agreement aligns with the directives of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to upgrade the quality of locally manufactured products, support export-oriented industries, and boost the competitiveness of Egyptian goods in international markets.
The protocol was signed by Essam El-Naggar, Chairperson of GOEIC, and Mohamed Mohamed Abdel Salam at the headquarters of the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
The agreement aims to expand cooperation in the inspection and laboratory analysis of textile, ready-made garment, and technical apparel samples in accordance with the latest approved Egyptian and international standards. It also seeks to strengthen coordination between regulatory bodies and the industrial sector to improve the quality of national products and facilitate their access to export markets.
According to a joint statement, the protocol will utilise GOEIC’s advanced laboratory and technical capabilities. The authority operates specialised laboratories equipped with modern testing equipment and supported by qualified scientific and technical experts capable of conducting comprehensive examinations of textile and garment samples.
Under the agreement, GOEIC will provide testing and analysis services for samples submitted by companies and factories affiliated with the chamber. Technical test reports will be issued within specified timeframes, helping to accelerate inspection procedures and enhance the efficiency of quality assurance systems for products destined for both local and export markets.
The protocol also includes the establishment of an electronic data-exchange mechanism through a dedicated digital platform linking the two parties. The platform is intended to streamline procedures while ensuring accuracy and security in the handling of laboratory testing data.
Commenting on the agreement, El-Naggar said the protocol aligns with the ministry’s strategy to support national industry and strengthen the quality framework of Egyptian exports, particularly in high value-added sectors such as ready-made garments and home textiles.
He added that GOEIC possesses advanced laboratory and digital infrastructure, as well as extensive technical expertise, enabling it to conduct a wide range of technical tests in line with the latest Egyptian and international standards. This, he said, will support manufacturers and enhance their ability to access global markets with confidence.
For his part, Abdel Salam said the cooperation represents an important step in supporting companies and factories operating in the sector by providing advanced inspection and testing services that help improve product quality and ensure compliance with international standards.
He added that the chamber is committed to supporting its members and enabling them to expand into international markets, noting that the partnership will help strengthen global confidence in Egyptian products and support export growth in the ready-made garments sector.
The protocol will remain in effect for five years, renewable upon mutual agreement. A joint committee from both sides will oversee its implementation and establish operational mechanisms to ensure maximum benefit for Egypt’s garments and home textiles industry.
