Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is set to hold talks with the US President Donald Trump on regional and international developments at the World Economic Forum in Davos, according to the Egyptian presidency.
The two leaders will discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between Egypt and the United States to serve mutual interests and bolster regional stability, presidency spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said.
Al-Sisi arrived at Zurich International Airport on Tuesday to participate in the 56th annual meeting, which runs from 19-23 January under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue.” He was received by Mohamed Negm, Egypt’s ambassador to Bern, and Alaa Hegazy, the permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
The forum’s agenda includes a series of events involving heads of state, leaders of international and regional organisations, and private sector representatives. Sessions are expected to focus on international cooperation, global prosperity, technology, innovation, and investment in human capital.
The 2026 meeting convenes nearly 3,000 leaders from over 130 countries at what organisers describe as a pivotal moment for global cooperation. This year features record governmental participation, with 400 political leaders expected, including 65 heads of state and government and six leaders from the G7. Nearly 850 CEOs and 100 technology pioneers are also in attendance.
Opening the forum on Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the chamber, noting that the world is reaching a period of “instability and imbalances.”
“It’s a time of peace, stability and predictability,” Macron joked, drawing laughter from the audience before citing shifts toward autocracy and the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Macron also made a pointed reference to US President Donald Trump’s claims of ending various global conflicts. While discussing the rise of instability, Macron noted that such shifts persisted “even though I understand a few of them were fixed,” a remark widely interpreted as a dig at the US President’s boasts regarding his foreign policy achievements.
The French president further criticised recent US actions, describing threats of sanctions against Europe related to disputes over Greenland as “fundamentally unacceptable.” He warned that such measures were being used as leverage against territorial sovereignty and urged the international community not to “passively accept the law of the strongest.”
The forum aims to provide an impartial platform for dialogue amidst profound geopolitical and technological shifts. Organisers stated the programme is designed to surface long-term solutions to interconnected challenges and unlock opportunities for growth and resilience.
