Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met senior government officials on Tuesday to review progress on the first phase of the national rural development initiative, known as “Decent Life”, the presidency said.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the first phase is being implemented across 20 governorates, 52 districts, 333 local units and 1,477 villages, benefiting around 20 million citizens.
The phase comprises approximately 27,332 projects, with an average completion rate of about 90%. These projects cover infrastructure and basic services, including sanitation, drinking water, energy, telecommunications, transport, roads and community services.
The meeting also reviewed current implementation challenges and discussed ways to ensure the timely completion of the remaining projects in the first phase, according to the statement.
Preparations for the second phase of the initiative were also discussed. This phase will include projects in sanitation, water, natural gas, fibre-optic communications, healthcare facilities, ambulance units under the universal health insurance system, as well as educational facilities.
The second phase is set to be implemented across 20 governorates and 204 local units, encompassing around 14,500 projects. Work has already begun in 245 villages, the statement said.
Al-Sisi instructed officials to accelerate the completion of the first phase, remove obstacles and secure the necessary funding to maximise benefits for citizens. He also stressed the importance of thorough preparation and high implementation standards for the second phase.
