Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met on Sunday with Abdelrahim El-Tayeb, Chad’s Minister of Livestock, to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector. The meeting, held in Cairo on the sidelines of the joint ministerial committee sessions chaired by the countries’ foreign ministers, was also attended by Egypt’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Mostafa El-Sayyad.
Discussions centred on opportunities to expand collaboration in livestock production, leveraging Chad’s extensive cattle resources alongside Egypt’s expertise in breed improvement and feed optimisation to enhance meat and dairy yields.
Both ministers highlighted the pivotal role of the private sector and agreed to consider convening a broad meeting of Egyptian and Chadian investors to examine prospects in animal production and feed manufacturing, especially in light of climate-related challenges. They also discussed ways to attract new investment into the sector.
The talks included the possibility of establishing an Egyptian laboratory in Chad to produce veterinary vaccines and serums to meet local and regional demand, while transferring Egyptian expertise in this critical area.
Farouk instructed that training opportunities for Chadian specialists and technicians be expanded through the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture, particularly in modern animal-health practices and intensive production systems.
The two sides agreed to organise reciprocal visits for specialised technical teams to activate previously signed memoranda of understanding and to expand trade in agricultural and livestock products.
Farouk said the cooperation reflects President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s commitment to strengthening ties with Chad and other African nations, while providing the technical and logistical support needed to enhance sustainable development and food security.
For his part, El-Tayeb expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support, emphasising that Chad considers Egypt a strategic partner with the expertise required to advance its livestock sector and broaden investment opportunities.
