Nile Revenue Committee follows up on water situation

Egypt’s Permanent Committee for Regulating the Nile’s Revenue held its periodic meeting on Monday to follow up on procedures for achieving the optimal management of water resources and procedures for dealing with the water needs of the upcoming period in conjunction with the start of the incoming water year with the highest degree of efficiency.

The meeting was headed by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty and was attended by executive leaders of the ministry and the National Water Research Centre. 

Abdel Aty stated that his ministry is making continuous efforts within the framework of a comprehensive vision aiming to provide the necessary water needs for all water-using sectors, both quantitatively and qualitatively. 

He pointed out that these efforts would reflect positively on achieving the sustainable development goals and providing services to beneficiaries with the highest degree of justice and effectiveness.

The minister also reviewed the position of purification works for canals and drains and the readiness of lifting stations in various governorates to ensure the ability of the waterway network to satisfy the water needs of all beneficiaries during the coming period and to meet the water needs of the agricultural season this summer.

He further emphasised the continuation of the state of alert in all the ministry’s departments to deal with heavy and torrential rain and the continuation of monitoring and the follow-up of facilities that protect against the dangers of these weather elements to ensure their readiness.
