Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, announced that it has signed an in-kind gift agreement with the American University in Cairo (AUC) to develop local communities on Sunday.
According to the statement, Schneider Electric will provide advanced solar energy solutions to AUC’s Research Institute for a Sustainable Environment (RISE). This will include the installation of one ‘Water of the Sun’ system and fifty ‘Mobiya Solar Lights’.
RISE is working on providing innovative and sustainable energy solutions to local communities in Wadi El Gemal and Abu Ghusun in Marsa Alam.
According to Ayman Ismail, partner projects marketing manager, Schneider Electric is providing local communities with innovative solutions in collaboration with Egyptian universities and research centres to support scientific research.
He added that Egypt has huge solar energy potential, which can help provide renewable and alternative energy, particularly to remote and off-grid areas.
The products mentioned above represent Schneider Electric’s latest solar-powered innovations for use in such areas. ‘Water of the Sun’ is a fully automatic solar powered water pumping system, which can pump up to 20 metres, completely relying on solar energy.
‘Mobiya’ is a lighting solution specifically designed for remote and off-grid areas. The water-resistant LED solar lamps can operate for 48 hours with only eight hours of solar charging.
Last year, Schneider Electric cooperated with ‘Youth with a Mission’ to provide 200 solar-powered Mobiya lamps to off-grid villages located between Marsa Alam in the Red Sea governorate and Ras Hederba in Shalateen.
