By Nasser Al-Azazzi

A suicide bomber killed four soldiers and injured five in an explosion in Al-Rayessa checkpoint on Thursday. The checkpoint was attacked more than 40 times since 25 January 2011.

A security source said that a car stopped at the checkpoint, and exploded when the soldiers approached it for scanning. He added that the Sinai-based jihadist group, Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis, is behind the explosion.

Prosecution ordered DNA testing be performed to identify the bodies.

State-owned Al-Ahram reported that strict security procedures were taken in the Sinai Peninsula after the bombing, mobile lines and internet connections were cut off, border crossings were closed and major roads from and to other governorates were blocked.

In another incident, three soldiers were injured when militants opened fire on three security vehicles, two busses and an armoured personnel carrier in Al- Sheikh Zowayed-Rafah road on Thursday.

The injured were transferred to Al-Sheikh Zowayed hospital.
