The prices of skin care and hair products are always on the rise, and it is often hard to find a product that promises to deliver all you need. In addition, there are many strange ingredients featured on the backs of many lotions and potions that baffle and confuse buyers. The answer is quite simple, Do It Yourself. You know that recipe book of your grandmother’s that contains a strange recipe for a face cream? Chances are that that natural face cream gives better results than all those fancy brands filled with chemicals.

Get ready for the holidays ahead with some homemade treatments that will give you the results that you are looking for.

Instead of using chemically prepared wax or pay someone to torture you while using non-natural ingredients, make your own traditional sugar wax and use it in the comfort of your own home.

Halawa

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 tsp lemon

Put the water and sugar in a pan on low heat.

Wait until the sugar melts and the mixture thickens up. It should resemble a thick, sticky, but quite translucent wax, but not look like caramel. If it resembles caramel, then you heated it too much and all you can do is start again.

Take the pan off the heat and add the lemon and stir well.

Let the mixture cool down until warm and remove from the pan. Knead until soft and use.

The following recipe will soothe a sore throat and heal pockets in and inflammations of the gums.

Cinnamon mouthwash

Yields one litre

1/4 cup cinnamon powder

1/2 cup honey

1 litre water; boiled and then left to cool down to warm.

Juice of two lemons

Pour the warm water in a container that can be closed tightly.

Add the cinnamon, honey and lemon juice.

Shake well.

Use the mixture after it has cooled down completely.

For best results it is recommended to use the mouthwash once in the morning and once at night.
