Tear gas killed a protester during clashes with police in Simon Bolivar Square near the United States embassy on Tuesday afternoon.

Fathy Gharib, 50, was a member of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party (SPAP). He died in Al-Helal hospital of asphyxiation from tear gas inhalation, SPAP member Amr Abo Tawila said.

Gharib’s death was the second fatality in recent Cairo clashes, following the death of Gaber Salah Gaber on Sunday.
