Locally manufactured car sales decrease by 14%, imported cars at 34%

In a comparison between local and imported car sales, sales of imported cars amounted to EGP 3.5bn during the first two months of 2015, while sales of locally manufactured cars reached EGP 1.5bn.

Importers managed to sell more than 19,000 cars during the same period; meanwhile, 12,000 locally manufactured cars were sold.

When it comes to imported passenger cars, they have witnessed growth in value and sales. Conversely, sales of locally manufactured cars decreased in January and February compared to the same period in 2014.

Sales of imported cars witnessed a growth of 34%, selling 19,000 cars, while sales of locally manufactured cars decreased by 14%, after selling 12,000 cars during January and February, instead of 14,000 cars in the same period last year.

Although sales of local cars have decreased, the Hyundai Verna hit the top of the list of the most sold cars in the first two months of 2015.

_____ ____ 10 ______ _______ _____Among the 10 locally manufactured cars most sold in Egypt during January and February 2015, the Hyundai Verna came on top with the sale of 4,144 cars. In second place came the Chevrolet Lanos with 1,629 cars sold, while the Chevrolet Aveo came in third place with the sale of 1,610 cars.

In fourth place came the Nissan’s new Sunny, which sold 1,217 cars, followed by the Esperanza Tiggo in fifth place with 950 cars sold. Then came Nissan Sunny in the sixth place with the sale of 820 cars, while Geely Emgrand 7 landed seventh with 802 cars, Toyota Fortuner came eighth with 214 cars sold, while the Jeep Wrangler  and Jeep Grand Cherokee came at the tail of the list with the sale of 183 and 180 cars, respectively.

On the other hand, the Skoda Octavia came on top of the list of the 10 most sold imported cars in Egypt during the first two months of 2015, with the sale of 1,566 cars, while the Toyota Corolla came in second with the sale of 1,339, and the Mitsubishi Lancer came in third place with 1,241 cars sold during the same period.

Hyundai cars occupied the fourth, fifth and sixth places, with the IX35, Accent, and Neo Elantra, which sold 1,208, 1,055, and 860 cars respectively. The Kia New Sportage came in seventh place, achieving the sale of 727 cars. The new Kia Cerato came in eighth with 661 cars sold, the Renault Fluence came ninth with 623 cars, while Hyundai Grand 10 came last with the sale of 593 cars.
