Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a series of meetings in Barcelona on Monday with several European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers.

The meetings were held to tackle developments in the Middle East, particularly in Libya, Syria, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq, and the fight against terrorism.

Shoukry met with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Portuguese Foreign Minister Rui Machete, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, and Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek.

The meetings were held on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting in Barcelona to review the Neighbourhood Policy between EU and Southern Mediterranean countries

The ministers tackled bilateral relations between Egypt and each of these countries, as well as methods of enhancing them in different fields. The meetings also followed up on the results of the Economic Summit that was held in Sharm El-Sheikh in March.

Shoukry stressed during the press conference following the meeting the importance of reviewing the Neighbourhood Policy with the European Union, as it is a “strategic partner” for the Arab world.
