Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Uganda’s Minister of State for Primary Health Care Charles Ayume discussed expanding Egyptian pharmaceutical and vaccine exports to the Ugandan market, exploring joint investment in vaccine and drug manufacturing, and reviving cooperation to combat hepatitis C in Uganda.
The Health Ministry said the meeting, held on Monday evening, covered cooperation in the manufacturing, import, and packaging of medicines and vaccines, as well as efforts to expand the presence of Egyptian pharmaceutical products in the Ugandan market.
The two sides also discussed potential joint investment in vaccine production and pharmaceutical manufacturing, along with the exchange of expertise in drug regulation and oversight. The ministry did not disclose the value of any potential investments or provide a timetable for specific projects.
The talks also covered training for doctors and nurses and the exchange of expertise in oncology, cardiology, intensive care, dialysis, and emergency medicine.
The two countries discussed expanding treatment opportunities for Ugandan cancer patients at Egyptian hospitals, alongside training for Ugandan medical staff in oncology.
The ministry said the two sides also considered reviving and broadening cooperation to eliminate hepatitis C in Uganda by drawing on Egypt’s experience.
It did not provide details of a new programme, funding arrangements, or an implementation schedule.
