Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy met with the head of the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) during his visit to Japan to participate in Tourism Expo Japan 2026, to discuss strengthening tourism cooperation and increasing tourist flows between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the strong relations between Egypt and Japan, noting that cooperation in tourism and antiquities represents an established model of international cooperation. The Grand Egyptian Museum was cited as one of the most prominent examples of this partnership.
Fathy expressed his interest in exchanging expertise and perspectives with the Japanese side during his visit and exploring opportunities to further strengthen cooperation. He stressed the importance of expanding collaboration between government institutions and the private sectors in both countries to create new opportunities and support tourism flows.
The head of the Japan Tourism Agency expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to increase bilateral tourism, highlighting Japanese tourists’ strong interest in Egyptian culture and civilisation.
Fathy also invited the JTA head to visit Egypt and explore the diversity of its tourism destinations, products and experiences. The invitation was welcomed by the Japanese side.
In turn, the head of the Japan Tourism Agency invited Fathy to participate in the upcoming Green Expo in Japan.
The Japan Tourism Agency is the government body responsible for the tourism sector in Japan and operates under the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
