Egypt plans to construct a new Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport with an annual capacity of 40 million passengers, as President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed officials to enhance foreign direct investment and private sector participation in the country’s aviation sector.
Al-Sisi met on Monday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny, and Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Ahmed El-Shazly to review the strategic vision and executive status of the Terminal 4 project.
Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the new terminal aims to represent a qualitative shift in the airport’s capacity, supporting the state’s target of transforming Egypt into a major regional hub for aviation, transport, and logistics.
El-Hefny noted that the project relies on the latest global concepts in airport design and operation, applying artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainable smart operating systems to improve operational efficiency and passenger services. Sisi directed that the new terminal be established according to the highest global standards in design, technology, sustainability, and operational efficiency to serve as a distinguished international model.
The Egyptian president emphasised the continuous need to develop the civil aviation system by updating airport infrastructure, raising service efficiency, and enforcing the highest safety and security standards. This aims to increase the regional and international competitiveness of Egyptian airports while enhancing private sector participation in their management and operation.
Al-Sisi also directed the strengthening of strategic partnerships to attract further foreign direct investment into the civil aviation sector by establishing integrated investment zones around Egyptian airports.
Reviewing the ministry’s future plans, El-Hefny noted that continuous investment in modernising and expanding airport capacities aims to meet comprehensive state development requirements and keep pace with the steady increase in global tourism and travel, cementing Egypt’s distinguished geographical position.
Additionally, Al-Sisi stressed the necessity of monitoring and dealing seriously and swiftly with any complaints regarding service quality at various airports, aiming to improve the travel experience and enhance passenger confidence.
Cairo International Airport’s existing infrastructure manages over 30 million travelers each year, a figure projected to climb to 70 million annually.
The expansion will allow Cairo Airport to handle more flights and passengers while strengthening its position as a major connection point between Africa, Asia and Europe.
Egypt is expanding its aviation infrastructure as the number of visitors and air passengers continues to rise.
