US Deputy Chief of Mission Eric Gaudiosi, in the presence of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, celebrated the graduation of 220 students from the Coptic Youth English Language Immersion Summer Camp at the Administrative Headquarters of the Papal Residence in Cairo. The US Embassy-supported initiative aims to strengthen English language skills and expand educational opportunities for Egyptian youth.
“English is the language of opportunity. It unlocks global markets and connects young people to new ideas and opportunities around the world,” Gaudiosi said. “Today’s graduation ceremony is another example of the close US-Egypt partnership, which promotes security and prosperity in both our countries.”
Pope Tawadros II underscored the importance of education and language learning, saying: “Education is the fundamental tool for growth and progress, whether in our personal lives, in serving the Church, or in contributing to society. Every time you learn a new language, you open a new window to the world and gain a broader, brighter vision for your future.”
The six-week programme brought together Egyptian teenagers from Alexandria, Cairo, and Borg El Arab for an intensive English-language immersion experience led by seven American volunteers and supported by the US Department of State’s Regional English Language Office (RELO) in Cairo. The programme marked the first English-language partnership between RELO Cairo and the Coptic Orthodox Church.
The US Embassy said the United States remains committed to partnering with Egyptian institutions to promote English language learning, which it described as a pathway to greater economic opportunities for Egyptian youth while also strengthening ties between the two countries.
