The Embassy of Pakistan in Cairo commemorated Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir on 5 August, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and reiterating its longstanding position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The event was attended by embassy officials, media representatives, and members of the Pakistani community.
In remarks delivered during the event, speakers referred to the developments of 5 August 2019, when India announced a series of constitutional and administrative changes concerning Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has consistently opposed those measures, maintaining that they have implications for the status of the disputed territory.
The speakers reiterated Pakistan’s position that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved peacefully in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. They also reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people.
The Embassy said Pakistan believes that a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is essential for peace and stability in South Asia. It reaffirmed its intention to continue raising the issue at international forums and called on the international community to support efforts towards a peaceful and durable settlement.
In his remarks, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt reiterated his country’s longstanding position on the dispute, stressing the importance of peace, dialogue, and regional stability. He also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for what it describes as the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
The Embassy concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and constructive approach to regional stability and its intention to continue diplomatic efforts concerning the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
