Ukrainian drone strikes killed five people in the Moscow region and seven others at a Black Sea resort, Russian officials said, as Moscow and Kyiv exchanged a series of deadly attacks that included Russian strikes on a Ukrainian gas station and Black Sea vessels.
Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov said in a Telegram post on Tuesday that five people died and six others were injured following a Ukrainian drone attack. The strike sparked a fire at a warehouse, which was later extinguished by fire crews, and damaged a private house and a car.
The Moscow incident followed an attack on Monday in the Black Sea resort of Gelendzhik, where Russia reported seven people, including three children, were killed and approximately 40 injured. Social media videos showed what appeared to be a Ukrainian drone crashing into a crowded beach area, causing a loud explosion.
Veniamin Kondratyev, governor of the southern Russian region of Krasnodar where Gelendzhik is located, described the incident as a tragedy.
“What happened today is a deliberate attack by the Kyiv regime on civilians who have no connection to military infrastructure,” Kondratyev said in a statement published on Telegram.
Meanwhile, Russia targeted four vessels it claimed were transporting supplies to Ukrainian forces. The state news agency RIA, citing the Defence Ministry, reported on Monday that Russian forces struck two ships in the Ukrainian port of Mykolaiv and two others in the Black Sea. Reuters could not independently verify the Defence Ministry’s claims.
In Ukraine, three people, including an emergency services worker, were killed in a Russian attack targeting a gas station in Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region—an area subjected to repeated attacks since the war began. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanja stated on Telegram that the strike caused a fire, damaging the station and several nearby vehicles.
Russia has repeatedly bombed targets in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, displacing millions, destroying vast areas, and resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians, predominantly Ukrainians.
In recent months, Ukraine has intensified long-range attacks deep into Russian territory. The strikes have primarily targeted oil refineries and e-commerce warehouses in what Kyiv describes as a campaign to make Russians bear the consequences of the war.
On Monday, two oil sector sources told Reuters that Russia’s Lukoil refinery in the Volgograd region had completely halted crude oil processing since Friday following a fire caused by a drone attack.
The Volgograd regional administration, citing governor Andrei Bocharov, had announced on Friday that drone attacks sparked fires at an unidentified fuel and energy facility. The industry sources confirmed that the attack targeted the Volgograd oil refinery, causing its primary and secondary refining units to cease operations.
