Shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petroleum fuel are arriving regularly to ensure the continuous operation of Egypt’s power plants and stabilise the national grid during peak summer consumption, the country’s petroleum minister said.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi confirmed the steady supply during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly at the government headquarters in New Alamein, where they reviewed plans to secure the local market’s energy needs for August. The fuel deliveries are being coordinated with the Central Bank of Egypt, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Badawi stated that proactive emergency plans and operational alternatives prepared by his ministry have proven efficient in addressing immediate variables. He noted these measures have secured the country’s natural gas and fuel requirements, maintaining stable supplies for the electricity sector and other vital industries.
During the meeting, Madbouly stressed that securing the state’s energy needs remains a top priority for the government. He called for continued coordination among all relevant authorities to increase local production, accelerate the development of new discoveries, and consolidate Egypt’s position as a regional energy trading hub.
Badawi also outlined the outcomes of recent discussions with regional and international partners. He highlighted progress in developing gas discoveries in cooperation with major global companies and linking them to Egyptian infrastructure. The minister noted that these efforts aim to support regional energy security, provide additional supplies to European markets, and generate economic returns for the participating nations.
