Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Monday that Chinese investments in Egypt exceeded $10bn, highlighting growing confidence among Chinese businesses in Egypt’s investment climate as the government reviewed new opportunities to deepen economic cooperation with Beijing.

Madbouly made the remarks while chairing the third meeting of the Ministerial Committee for the China Unit, attended by several ministers and senior government officials, to follow up on the implementation of the Egypt-China comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new areas of cooperation across key economic sectors.

The prime minister said the strategic relationship between Cairo and Beijing continues to deepen under the guidance of the leadership of both countries, building on the progress achieved in recent years to support Egypt’s development agenda and advance shared interests.

He reviewed the latest developments in bilateral cooperation and the progress of several joint projects, stressing the importance of continued coordination among government entities to ensure the effective implementation of the strategic partnership.

Madbouly said Chinese investments in Egypt have now surpassed $10bn, with a large number of Chinese companies operating across a broad range of sectors.

“The figure reflects the growing confidence of the Chinese business community in Egypt’s investment environment and the promising opportunities the country offers to investors,” he said.

According to Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany, the meeting reviewed a pipeline of joint projects and investment opportunities with Chinese partners across several priority sectors, underscoring the breadth of the economic partnership between the two countries.

The discussions covered cooperation in industrial development, seawater desalination, localisation of advanced technologies, telecommunications, transport, mining, clean energy, specialised chemical industries, engineering industries, agriculture, and expanding exports of Egyptian agricultural products.

The proposed projects are expected to support Egypt’s sustainable development agenda by facilitating technology transfer, attracting additional Chinese investment, boosting local manufacturing, and further expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

Participating ministers also reviewed progress on ongoing Egypt-China projects and discussed additional opportunities to strengthen collaboration across a wide range of strategic sectors, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to deepening their long-standing economic partnership.
