The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), in cooperation with the Association of African Central Banks (AACB), has launched the electronic portal of the African Financial Stability Committee (AFSC), marking a new step in strengthening institutional cooperation among African central banks and enhancing mechanisms for knowledge and expertise sharing in the field of financial stability across the continent.

The launch of the portal reflects the success of the joint efforts that led to the establishment of the AFSC under the umbrella of the AACB, following an initiative by the CBE under the auspices of CBE Governor Hassan Abdalla. The committee serves as the first continent-wide institutional framework dedicated to financial stability from a macroprudential perspective, supporting coordination and cooperation among African central banks while promoting the resilience of financial systems across Africa.

The AFSC portal represents a significant institutional milestone in the committee’s development, providing an integrated digital platform that introduces its objectives, mandates, organisational structure and member central banks. It also showcases the committee’s working groups, including the African Financial Stability Report Working Group (AFSR-WG) and the Macroprudential Policy Development and Implementation Working Group (MPDI-WG), highlighting their respective roles in advancing the committee’s objectives and strengthening technical cooperation among African central banks.

The platform also underscores the role of the AFSC Secretariat in coordinating the committee’s technical and administrative activities, supporting its working groups, and managing and maintaining the portal’s content.

The portal will serve as the committee’s primary platform for publishing reports, studies, technical papers and reference materials. Chief among these is the African Financial Stability Report, the first comprehensive continent-wide assessment of financial stability prepared directly by African central banks. By making these resources more accessible, the portal is expected to broaden their reach and encourage greater use by central banks, financial institutions and other stakeholders across Africa and internationally.

In addition, the portal provides information on the committee’s regular meetings, working group activities and ongoing initiatives, enhancing transparency and enabling stakeholders to follow efforts aimed at strengthening financial stability across the continent.

The AFSC portal is expected to facilitate knowledge sharing, promote the exchange of best practices among African central banks, and strengthen coordination in addressing macroprudential risks and financial stability challenges across Africa.

The launch of the portal reaffirms the commitment of the CBE, the AACB and member central banks to advancing African financial integration. It also reinforces the AFSC’s role as a specialised continental platform for technical cooperation on financial stability, supporting the development of more resilient financial systems capable of underpinning sustainable economic growth across the continent.
