Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a phone call with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Wednesday, reaffirming Egypt’s unwavering support for Jordan’s security and condemning the Iranian attacks targeting the kingdom and other Arab states.
According to the Egyptian presidency, Al-Sisi underscored the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and Jordan, stressing that Jordan’s security is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.
He strongly condemned the attacks targeting Jordan and other neighbouring Arab countries, reaffirming Egypt’s support for all measures taken by the Jordanian leadership to safeguard the kingdom’s sovereignty, preserve its stability and protect its people.
Al-Sisi also called for intensified regional and international efforts to reach political solutions to the current regional crisis, reduce tensions and prevent further deterioration. He reiterated Egypt’s solidarity with Jordan in confronting terrorism and extremism and in preserving regional security and stability.
For his part, King Abdullah expressed appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast support for Jordan and praised Al-Sisi’s commitment to upholding international law, promoting good neighbourly relations and advancing efforts to achieve a peaceful and comprehensive settlement to the ongoing regional tensions.
The two leaders also discussed developments related to the Palestinian issue, reaffirming the need for a just and comprehensive settlement based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution.
They reiterated their rejection of what they described as Israel’s dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank and warned against the actions of extremist settler groups in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, stressing the need to prevent further escalation that could undermine regional stability.
Al-Sisi also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Jordan’s historic Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing the importance of maintaining close coordination between Cairo and Amman to address shared regional challenges and safeguard the interests of the two countries and the wider region.
