Beijing- Wang Jie, Deputy Director-General of Culture and Tourism Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, stated that there are discussions between the Xinjiang Tourism Administration and Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to hold the “Xinjiang is a Wonderful Place” dancing show and the “Xinjiang Cultural Week” in Egypt in 2024.

Jie pointed out that Xinjiang hosted the sixth World Dance Festival in recent days, which showcased many international performances with the participation of artists from different countries around the world. The festival also included a two-day ballet performance in Urumqi.

She highlighted direct cooperation and communication in recent years with cultural agencies in Egypt, where events were organized with the participation of both sides.

She further elaborated that these events and activities included organizing exhibitions, screening films and programmes, as well as, presenting artistic performances, where there was a performance at the Cairo Opera House to showcase Xinjiang’s traditional dance. In addition, a traditional music show was presented jointly with Egypt at the Cairo Opera House in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Cairo in 2017. The performance represents music and costumes of all nationalities and minorities in the Xinjiang region.

She further pointed out that three films were presented to Egyptian audiences about the region’s nature and social development.

Tourism in Xinjiang in 2023 has recovered, with 100 million Chinese tourists visiting and these numbers are expected to increase by 2023, she said.

Egypt and China have a great civilization, old cooperation and a common future through the Belt and Road Initiative, she stated, expressing her wish to open more horizons of cooperation in the culture, tourism and antiquities sector.

The Belt and Road Initiative is not only about economic cooperation but also pays great attention to exploring the culture, traditions and customs of the participating countries.
