K-pop creates mutual understanding between South Korea, Egypt: Korean Cultural Center

Oh Sung-ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, expressed his happiness with the spread of K-pop among the Egyptian youth, noting that K-pop creates mutual understanding between South Korea and Egypt. 

Sung-ho said that the Korean Cultural Center will continue holding K-pop events in order to offer fans in Egypt the chance to taste and experience the passion, richness of Korean pop culture.

His remarks came during the closing ceremony of the 2022 K-Pop Academy. With thrilling performances rocked the stage of Ali Fahmy theater, Academy of Arts, the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt wrapped up the 2022 K-Pop Academy. Students showcased a variety of dance performances they had learned in class during the closing ceremony, attended by a large audience of K-pop fans. 

Students showed off 5 wonderful performances while instructors presented additional performances. Audience enjoyed the K-pop quiz that was held to test their knowledge of the K-POP stars and troupes. 

The 2022 K-Pop Academy was run for about three weeks from August 28 to September 14, at the Ballet Institute. Students who were divided into five classes included beginner’s groups who learned TWICE’s Cheer up, Seventeen’s My, BTS’s Microp, Blackpink’s Pink Venom, Pretty savage, and Starkids’ God’s menu, and opened relatively easy beginner groups.

It is more meaningful in that the winners of the K-Pop World Festival held by the Cultural Center in May worked as lecturers to build a self-sustaining K-pop community in Egypt, rather than inviting instructors from Korea. The 2022 K-Pop Academy was run by 12 Egyptian professional K-pop instructors. 

Above all, the enthusiasm of the participants is higher than ever, with more than 300 students applying very soon after the application had opened despite the available limit of 60 spots.

Sung-ho said that the Korean Cultural Center will continue holding K-pop events in order to offer fans in Egypt the chance to taste and experience the passion, richness of Korean pop culture.
