Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met with Kazakh Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Tursunov on Monday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations as well as issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Shoukry expressed Egypt’s pride in the friendly relationship it has with Kazakhstan, noting that this year, the two countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

The two sides stressed the importance of boosting cooperation between the two countries in various fields, following up on a telephone call that took place between the presidents of the two countries in February 2022.

Shoukry also expressed his appreciation for the role of Kazakhstan in the launch of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The CICA aims to create a new formula for strengthening confidence and ensuring security and stability in Asia in terms of cooperation in combating terrorism and illicit drug trafficking, strengthening economic cooperation between member states, and limiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their complete disarmament.

For his part, Tursunov stressed the importance his country attaches to relations with Egypt, along with its pivotal role in the region, and reviewed the preparations for the next CICA that will be chaired by Kazakhstan.
