155,000 Egyptians get vaccinated on Sunday: Health Minister

Total of 155,000 people were vaccinated on Sunday, Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed stated during a meeting with the Supreme Committee for the Management of Coronavirus on Monday. 

Zayed discussed the reserves of various vaccines against coronavirus, whether the doses already been received, or quantities planned to be received during the coming period.

She noted the recent visit of the President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to Egypt came on the sidelines of receiving the first batch of “Johnson & Johnson” vaccine.

She stated that the meeting discussed a plan adopted by the “Moderna” company to partner in establishing 20 vaccine manufacturing points worldwide in cooperation with the World Health Organization. 

In this regard, the Afreximbank President offered that the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) would buy 100% of the vaccine production of Egypt’s VACSERA.

The minister revealed a plan that aims to vaccinate about 800,000 citizens per day, which contributes during an average of 88 days to reach about 35 million citizens.

Regarding the vaccination of workers in universities, institutes, and research centres, she mentioned that the vaccination points that have been allocated in university hospitals to vaccinate medical staff are obligated to cover the vaccination of the rest of the workers in each university.

Moreover, all facilities affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education are obligated to send estimated numbers of employees in each authority to the heads of health affairs directorates for coordination for their vaccination. 

The Minister of Health indicated that the regulations for vaccinating workers in the Ministry of Education and Technical Education include specifying the Ministry of Health through the vaccine reservation portal, choosing (Educational workers), so that the Ministry’s employees choose it during the completion of the reservation, provided that the Ministry of Education alerts workers to quickly register with a limit at 7 September 2021.
