Damietta Container and Cargo Handling Company signed on Tuesday a cooperation protocol with the Port Training Institute (PTI)—affiliated to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport—to train and qualify the company’s workers.

It came on the sidelines of the visit of Mohamed Saad Zaghloul, chairperson of the Damietta Company, to the PTI’s headquarters. The signing of the agreement was attended by Akram Soliman, the dean of the institute.

The two sides agreed to start providing the training by the next year for giant crane workers, truck drivers, and training and planning officials in container terminals.

Last year, the Damietta Company received four new rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from Konecranes Company as part of the company’s plan to develop its equipment and increase trading rates. The company now has 20 RTG cranes, which supports the company’s efficiency.

The Damietta Company achieved total revenues of EGP 500m at the end of the last fiscal year (FY), compared to EGP 385m in the FY before last. The company’s investment plan for the current FY is estimated at EGP 230m, and it aims to purchase four new cranes and develop the containers terminal.
