Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met Saturday with German member of parliament Alexander Radwan, who belongs to the Christian Democratic Union party (CDU), to discuss political and economic affairs in Egypt, particularly the economic reform programme and the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) loan to Egypt.

The loan given to Egypt by the IMF reflects international trust in Egypt’s institutions to overcome the current economic turmoil, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid said, citing Shoukry, in a statement issued Saturday.

Shoukry added that Germany is a key economic partner to Egypt and the latter is looking forward to Germany’s support in the economic reform efforts.

Abou Zeid said that Radwan was keen to know Egypt’s stance on the ongoing regional cases, including the situation in Libya, Syria, and Iraq, as well as the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Earlier this month, Shoukry also received the foreign and security policy adviser of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. They also discussed the economic reform programme in Egypt, further tackled regional issues and the humanitarian crises in several Arab countries.
