The shine of the poet Abdel Rahman El-Abnoudy faded , as he died at the age of 76. El-Abnoudy is considered one of the famous Vernacular poets in the Middle East.

He was born in 1939 in the southern Egyptian governorate of Qena in a simple, conservative family. He always ensured he stuck to his Upper Egyptian accent, and aside from his extreme – sometimes shocking honesty- these were the two main points that made him very unique.

His famous book “Ayamy El-Helwa” (“My Sweet Days”), in which he wrote about the events and struggles he faced in his life journey, had very interesting stories of the details of living as a citizen in any an Upper Egypt governorates.

He published more than 20 collections of poetry aside of writing famous songs for Egyptian legendaries like Abdel Halim Hafez and Mohammed Moneir.

He received the State Award to be the first Vernacular poet to get such an award at 2001, and also won the Mahmoud Darwish Award for Arab’s Innovation at 2014.
