For the first time, Street View Special Collects, a feature of Google Maps, lets users explore places around the world like landmarks and other culturally and historically significant sites.
To explore the Pyramids of Giza, necropolis of Saqqara, the Citadel of Qaitbay, the Cairo Citadel, the Hanging Church, and the ancient city of Abu Mena, only an internet connection is required.
The new feature uses the Trekker , a wearable Street View backpack with a camera system on top that is designed to go down footpaths, tracks and narrow pathways to get images of areas of landmarks or tourist sites.
“The Street View team tries to go to amazing places around the world,” Tarek Abdalla, head of marketing for Google Middle East and North Africa said, “because we know that our users love to see them and experience them online.”
Egypt has an incredible location with “one of a kind” historical and archeological sites, he said.
