The Swiss federation chose FC Basel’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah as the best player in the league for the year 2013 on Tuesday.

Domestically, Salah’s 2013 record is four goals and five assists in 16 games while also helping Basel to last year’s Swiss league title. Basel bought Salah from the Egyptian team Arab Contractors.

During the presentation of the award, the presenter called the player “a superhero” for Basel’s supporters.

Salah has been a great addition to the team, with rumours surfacing of several premier league clubs interested in signing the player during next month’s transfer window opening.

Regionally, Salah was lauded after scoring the only goal and allowing a chance for Basel to advance to the next round during last week’s Chelsea fixture. Chelsea previously won the champions league for the year 2012.

Salah was described by veteran Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho as “an excellent player.”
