Market shares for IOS, Windows Phone, and Blackberry Smartphone operating systems have declined since 2011, as Android operating systems grew, according to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC).

The report added that Android expanded its market share from 57.4% in 2011 to 84.4% by the end of the third quarter (Q3) of 2014. The other systems, on the other hand, have witnessed regular decreases in market share since 2011.

Android continued, in the Q3 2014, to dominate the market according to IDC, having gained 84.4% of the market by the end of the quarter, compared to 81.2% for the same period in 2013.

Apple operating system IOS came in second place for its market share, retaining an 11.7% share despite a slight decline at the end of the Q3 2014 compared to 12.8% for the same period in 2013. Windows Phone came in third with 2.9% of the market at the end of the third quarter, despite a drop from approximately 3.6% for the same period during 2013.

Blackberry also experienced continuous decreases due to Android’s expansion, with its market share falling from 1.7% in Q3 2013 to 0.5% during the same period in 2014. Other operating systems accounted for a combined 0.6% of the market share.
