ZTE, a company specialised in smartphone manufacturing, aims to increase its market share in the Egyptian market to 5% by the end of the year, aiming to reach 10% by 2018, according to a statement by Chen Hui, the regional director of ZTE Africa and Middle East.

The statement came on the sidelines of a press conference held by the company on the occasion of contracting with Nile Engineering Company to be the exclusive agent of ZTE’s products in Egypt.

Hisham Al-Taibi, managing director of Nile Engineering, told Daily News Egypt that the company was able to achieve a business volume of nearly EGP 2bn last year, and aims to increase the amount to EGP 2.5bn by the end of 2017 with support from the partnership the company has with ZTE.

“Investing in sports is one of the best methods of promotion in Egypt and the world, so ZTE is considered one of the main sponsors for many European teams such as Seville in Spain and Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany, in addition to more than five teams in the American Basketball League NBA. ZTE chose Cristiano Ronaldo, the best football player in the world in 2016, as an ambassador for one of its most recent smartphones, Nubia Z17 Mini,” said Hui.

Hui added that the products of the company, whether smartphones or regular mobile phones, or even other telecommunications devices, are present in most of the Egyptian homes, where ZTE is considered the largest supplier of fixed line devices and smartphones in Egypt. It was one of the most prominent sponsors of the national football team in 2016, when the team was able to return to compete in the African championship after an absence of six years.

ZTE is currently ranked 6th across the world in terms of smartphone sales. The US, Europe, and China are considered some of the most important markets as well for the company, where the company ranks 4th in the US, second in Russia, and ranks in leading positions in several other countries around the world.

ZTE is considered one of the oldest and largest communications companies in the world. The company was established in 1985. It works in more than 140 countries with more than 80,000 employees across the world from different nationalities. The company’s branch in Egypt was established in 2000.
