Former Minister of Communications to chair Vodafone Egypt

Vodafone Egypt announced the replacement of Ian Gray with the former Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Hany Mahmoud, as chairperson of the company. Gray had been chairperson for 17 years and contributed to much of the company’s success.

Mahmoud has over 30 years of experience in several local and international fields, such as communications, industry, finance, marketing, human resources, and leadership.

Moreover, Mahmoud worked at Vodafone for 11 years in several senior leadership positions across several countries, before he took office as Minister of Communications and Information Technology in 2012, followed by becoming Minister of Administrative Development in 2013.

Vodafone International achieved an increase in its number of subscribers in Egypt during the second quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2016/2017.

According to the business results, the number of subscribers to the company’s services increased from 39.043 million in the first quarter of FY 2016/2017 to 39.666 million in the second quarter of the FY—an increase of 623,600 customers. The company’s unit in Egypt has become one of the largest units in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions. Vodafone’s FY begins on 1 April and ends on 31 March.
