DP World Sokhna signed a contract with a global tourism company to organise weekly sea trips from the port of Aqaba to the port of Sokhna at the Red Sea, according to Ayman Badawi, head of government relations and ‎commercial manager of DP World Sokhna.

He said that the contract will be activated starting from October, and the company aims to organise its trips within a year.

On the other hand, Ajay Singh, CEO of DP World Sokhna, said the company has invested nearly $1bn in the Egyptian market since 2009.

He added that the port increased its market share during the last year by 1% compared to 2015 in relation to the total cargo at Egyptian ports, reaching 8%.

Singh further added that the company will begin the technological developing of the port during the second half of this year, so that the trucks can enter the port mechanically, which will contribute to reducing waiting time. The company will merge the customer service and customs department mid-year to improve service and launch a call centre to serve clients for 24 hours a day.
