Magdy Abdel Ghany, the chairperson of Universal Group for Household Appliances, said that the group’s investments in the Egyptian market are estimated at EGP 4bn, with 14 factories on an area of 250,000sqm, including three factories for household heaters and appliances, and 11 factories for feeder industries.

Furthermore, according to Khaled El-Sayed, marketing head at Universal, his company currently has a market share of 40% in the local market, selling products such as cookers, heaters, and washing machines.

He pointed out that the company seeks to put in place a plan to develop its products within the next five years, especially the products to be exported, where the company aims to open new markets in 12 countries within the next five years. The company has started to open representative offices in several countries to begin exporting, including Senegal, Australia, England, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Russia.

He explained that the company has more than 3,000 authorised distributors and 30 service facilities in the country. Universal’s products are present in 80 countries around the world, and its products are used in 15m homes in Egypt and 10m homes around the world.

Universal is among the only companies in Egypt that achieve 70% self-sufficiency for its needs, according to El-Sayed. This is a result of largely investing in feeder industries with a sort of keenness to reduce importing while providing local high-quality feeder industries and providing foreign currencies through exports.

He added that Universal is considered one of the ten largest exporters in Egypt.
