Egyptian shot-putter Mostafa Amr—who is part of the Egyptian national athletics team—won the third place at the 2017 IAAF World Indoor Championship, which took place in the United States.

The 21 year old champion achieved a new Egyptian national record with 21,30 metres, breaking the last Egyptian record of 20, 76 metres, held by Ahmed Shata since 1988.

Thanks to this victory, Amr qualified for the World Championship, which is taking place in London in August.

The Egyptian previously won the 2015 Arab Championship in Bahrain. He also came in first at the 2013 African Junior Championship in Mauritius.
