Twelve conscripts were killed and six were injured in an exchange of fire during a terror attack on a security check point in North Sinai on Friday morning.

During the fire exchange, the armed forces allegedly killed 15 militants.

Security forces transferred injures to a military hospital and notified the concerned bodies for investigations.

On Thursday, North Sinai Security Directorate arrested on 39 suspects and fugitives, some of whom were handed prison sentences in absentia. This came part of continues security raids to target criminal elements targeting security in Sinai, local media reported.

These types of attacks are believed to be conducted by the Islamic State-affiliated group “Sinai Province”, which regularly targets army and police personnel, considering them “apostates” who should be killed.

Since 2013, following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, “Sinai Province” has launched dozens of deadly attacks against army stationing points.
