Five people died and 27 others were injured in a train accident on Wednesday near Al-Ayyat, Giza, according to state media.

The train was heading from Cairo to Aswan when three of its cars derailed from the track before flipping over. The death toll is subject to increase.

Head of Egypt’s Railway Authority Medhat Shousha told state-run news agency MENA that the train’s conductor had suddenly switched the direction of the train off the main track when the accident occurred.

Minister of Transportation Galal Al-Saied left the cabinet meeting and headed to the location of the accident to oversee investigations.
