Spanish squash champion Borja Golán

Five Egyptian squash champions competed in the 2016 Sporta IX Torneo Internacional PSA Sporta, celebrated in Guatemala: Marwan El-Shorbagy, Mazen Hesham, Mohamed Aboul Ghar, Zahed Mohamed and Omar Abdel Meguid.

Aboul Ghar lost to Mexican Alfredo Avila, in the first round, with scores of 11-6, 6-11, 13-11, 12-10 and a final score of 3-1.

Also in the first round, El-Shorbagy, lost to Peru’s Diego Elías, with scores of 15-13, 11-3, 11-9 and a final score of 3-0.

In the quarterfinals, Abdel Meguid, was defeated by Spanish Borja Golán, with scores of 11-7, 13-15, 12-14, 6-11 and a final score of 3-1.

Only Zahed Mohamed and Mazen Hesham qualified for the semi-finals, along with Golán and Mexican Cesar Salazar.

Mohamed lost to Salazar, with scores of 6-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8 and a final score of 3-2.

In the other semi-final match, Hesham lost to Golán, with scores of 8-11, 7-11, 5-11 and a final score of 3-0.

The victory was for the Spanish champion, Golán, who beat his rival, Salazar, in the final with scores of 8-11, 11-13, 4-11 and a final score of 3-0.

Moving to the 2016 Swiss IT Factory Swiss Open, celebrated in Zurich, two Egyptian squash players participated.

Shehab Essam exited the tournament in the first round after being defeated by French, Benjamin Aubert, with the scores of: 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, and the final score of 3-1.

The other Egyptian player was Saad El-Din Abou Aish. He exited the tournament in the quarterfinals as he lost to English player Joe Lee with scores of 12-10, 11-1, 11-4 and a final score of 3-0.

Egypt was not the only Arab country which participated as Ammar Al Tamimi, representing Kuwait, was also there. However, he exited the tournament, after being defeated by Lee, with scores of 11-6, 11-5, 11-3 and a final score of 3-0.

The tournament’s victory went to Danish player Kristian Frost Olesen who beat Lee in the final with scores of 11-3, 11-4, 5-11, 7-11, 4-11 and a final score of 3-2.
