Egyptian international squash champion El-Shorbagy wins Men’s Windy City Open 2016

Egyptian squash champion Mohamed El-Shorbagy, ranked first internationally, continued his victory streak when he won the Men’s Windy City Open 2016 held at the University Club of Chicago, US from 25 February to 2 March.

Egyptian squash champion Mohamed El-Shorbagy, ranked first internationally, continued his victory streak when he won the Men’s Windy City Open 2016 held at the University Club of Chicago, US from 25 February to 2 March.

Moahmed El-Shorbagy’s victory is his first at the Windy City Open. In the final match, he defeated English squash player Nicholas Matthew, ranked third internationally. In last year’s Windy City Open, the Matthew defeated El-Shorbagy in the final.

In 2016 semi-final matches, Matthew defeated Egyptian player Omar Mosaad, ranked fourth internationally, 11-4, 11-9, 7-11, and 11-8. In the other semi-final match, El-Shorbagy defeated Colombian player Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, 11-5, 12-10, and 11-7.

El-Shorbagy and Mosaad were not the only Egyptian players participating in the competition.  The tournament also included Tarek Momen, Mohamed Abouel Ghar,  Karim Abdel Gawad, Omar Abdel Meguid, Ali Farag, Fares Mohamed Dessouki, and Mohamed El-Shorbagy’s brother, Marwan,

In the quarter finals, Marwan El-Shorbagy and Moemn exited the tournament after they lost to Rodríguez, 9-11, 5-11, 8-11, and to Matthew, 4-11, 5-11, 11-13, respectively.

In the tournament’s second round, Abouel Ghar and Abdel Gawad exited the tournament when they lost to Mohamed El-Shorbagy, 9-11, 6-11, and 16, 18 and to Marwan El-Shorbagy, 8-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-5, and 6-11, respectively.

Egyptian players Abdel Meguid, Dessouki, and Farag, exited the tournament in the first round.
