Landline use increases by 3.4% in October 2015

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a report for October 2015 detailing that landline users increased by 3.4% year-over-year. There were 6.3 million users at the end of October 2015 compared to 6.1 million at the end of October 2014.

Residential users constituted the majority of landline users at 88%. The commercial sector accounted for 9% of use while the public sector was recorded at 3%, according to the report.

The ministry’s report showed a decline in the number of mobile phone users by 1.5% in October 2015 compared to the same period in 2014. The number amounted to 93.1 million users at the end of past October and registered 94.5 million users in October 2014. As a result, the ratio of the mobile users to the population decreased from 110% in October 2014 to 106% in the same period in 2015.

On the other hand, the number of internet users increased in October 2015 registering 33.7 million users, compared to 27.5 million in the same period in 2014.
