Parliamentary Speaker Ali Abdel Aal urged MPs to expedite the ratification of decrees that were issued during the legislature’s three year absence and are under review in the parliament.

“Time is passing us by, we only have four days left,” Abdel Aal said during Monday’s parliamentary session.

The parliament is bound by constitutional Article 156 to review all decrees issued during its absence within 15 days of the parliament reconvening.  According to Abdel Aal, it is necessary to ratify the remaining decrees within the four remaining days to avoid “the collapse of the state’s legal system”.

“We must approve all laws because they are important, facing difficult circumstances, and must help the state overcome the risks it is facing,” he told MPs, calling for their compliance.

This was the second session held this week by the House of Representatives to review, discuss, and vote on the ratification or revocation of 340 laws issued by executive authorities under former interim president Adly Mansour and current President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
