Electronics company Asus Global is to launch smart phones in Egypt for the first time in December. One of the three largest smart phone manufacturers in the world, Asus is seeking to expand its presence in the Egyptian market.

Saria Hamouda, Egypt country manager for ASUS, said the company expects to sell between 10,000 and 15,000 smart phones in December.

Asus is investing $10m in launching its smart-phone activity in Egypt, with 40,000 devices to be imported by the end of the year.

“The Egyptian market is promising and has a strong potential for smart phones,” Hamouda said, adding that Egypt is the second largest smart-phone market in the region after Saudi Arabia.

Asus will introduce four smart-phone models to the domestic market in December and has contracted with 4Link and Metra to distribute the devices.

Hamouda said Asus is focusing on customers between the ages of 16 and 35 in its new marketing strategy, which aims to double its market share over the next two years.

Asus recently introduced its new Zenfone line, including the 2Deluxe, Selfie, 2Laser and Go models. Prices range between EGP 1,100 and EGP 3,400.
