The Ministry of Social Solidarity has appointed a General Commissioner to the Egyptian Automobile Manufacturers Association (EAMA), to oversee the management of the Association Council elections.

General Hussein Mustafa, Executive Director and a spokesman for a former official of the association, said the ministry has appointed the commissioner to manage the procedures of opening the door for election. He expected the announcement for the opening of election doors to take place next month, after the apparent rapprochement between the automotive sector parties to reunite the sector.

He praised the meeting held by the Chamber of Engineering Industries, headed by Hamdi Abdel Aziz, with the EAMA.

He also anticipated that he will be called by the newly elected council to hold the Executive Director position and act as official spokesman of the EAMA. He further expressed his willingness to contribute to the return of the EAMA, and the reunification of the sector.

Meanwhile, a Ministry of Social Solidarity source said the ministry assigned Mohamed Hany, from the management of the Regional Federation of Associations, to hold the EAMA’s General Commissioner position. Hany will also be expected to manage the procedures of opening the door for running in the elections and to head the General Assembly, which will choose the Chairman.

The ministry had nullified the General Assembly, held on 25 November 2014, which was won by Mohamed Abdel Moneim Saudi, Chairman of Modern Motors. This was due to the lack of quorum of more than 60% of the members, who number 18 members.

The ministry had already decided to nullify three general assemblies for the selection of EAMA Chairman over the past three years, for the same reason. This was in light of the differences between automotive industry parties over the EAMA chairmanship, which lead a number of EAMA members to tender their resignations.
