Last week, Egypt awoke to devastating news that the country has lost a great talent and an even greater soul. Aya Afify  was one of Egypt’s most prominent designers, as her collections often received exquisite feedback from clients and the media.

Afify, who launched her brand in 2013, loved to experiment with colours and silhouettes. Beauty, nature and local women were her recurring themes. Her early collection focused on veiled women in particular, getting her all the way to prestigious publications such as The New York Times.

As the designer within her evolved, Afify began unfolding her true character as a human being to create one of the most positive social campaigns earlier this year.

“No to Anorexia” was the artist’s way to positively use fashion in order to spread love and acceptance. Daily News Egypt had the honour to meet the outstanding designer and witness her brilliant work.

Afify’s latest collection “Enchanted” is still turning heads with her vivid vision, as it is easily one of the season’s most beautiful collections.

Afify’s art will never go out of date and her genuine persona will forever be remembered.  While her family is still mourning privately, her friends took their grief to social media for a ‘Sadaka’ (good deed) campaign to commemorate her memory.
